The Concept: To create a half-day spa experience for women in Davis for under $100.

Like many, I ventured to the 41st annual Whole Earth Festival (WEF) last weekend to get my fill of eclectic music, vegetarian food, patchouli oil and people watching. But amidst all the standard hoopla, tie-dyed dresses, drum circles, and picnicking patrons was an unexpected adventure waiting for me.

The Good Life. Since I moved back to Davis after a 10-year hiatus, things look different to me. I’m older, wiser, and appreciate things that support a healthy lifestyle. Many changes I see have been welcomed surprises, like the Good Life Garden located at the Robert Mondavi Institute (aka RMI).

Wanna get away? Sometimes we all need to just ‘take a moment’ amidst the chaos of life. It’s fun to fantasize about escaping to the beach or the mountains when life is hectic, but I’d like to offer something a little easier, and a little closer to home. I call these places “serenity spots”. They are little nooks and crannies where I can take a step back from my day, turn off the technology, and just ‘be’.
