Doug Arnold - Class of 1965

Our last graduate, again from the class of 1965, is Doug Arnold.  Like the other four people profiled, Doug went through Davis schools, tested out life outside of Davis, earned a medal of valor with the San Francisco Police Department and then returned to Davis to raise his children and make a difference in his community.

Doug was king of the junior prom in 1964, wrote for the Hub newspaper, was on the track team and played tackle on the football team.  He, too, fondly recalls working with coaches Bud Henle and Royal Morrison, but also remembers things nobody else mentioned, which was the kind of car that principal Don McKinley, assistant principal Royal Morrison and teachers Gene Sellers and Don Brewer drove.  They drove the power car of the day, the Pontiac (Rest In Peace).  Doug remembers because his father owned Arnold Motors on Olive Drive and, although they also sold Ramblers, Pontiac was the car of prestige in Davis.

He even remembers a time when he was called into the office only to hear that the assistant principal needed the headlights on his car adjusted, so he gave Doug the keys and let him take his Pontiac to his dad’s dealership, right in the middle of a school day.
