The sound of a can being cracked open, or a bottle top being thrown into the trash is the music of the softball park. A place where old friends have been playing softball together for 20 years, but have long since been family. Starting back in 1989, this Coldwell Banker-, CB for short, sponsored softball team was born. The team, composed of 13 friends, 12 players, and one loyal cheer captain, has evolved, into one big hybrid family that now claims that their acronym-based-name stands for "cold beer" or "cold brew." Although their team name and reasons for hanging out have morphed over the years, these friends still hold true to what they love to do - enjoy each others company. Whether they played sports in high school or college, they have all been playing together since 1989. At the time, Martha was playing on a CaffĂ© Italia team, and was asking people to join. Marc was asked to join after Martha discovered he was team-less, and "...we just kind of morphed," said Rick. Twenty years later, this crew has seen a few people come and go, but has primarily remained the same. Complete with kids, braces and pain, these "old-fart’s" still play ball together, remaining among the best in the Davis city leagues. |
