It was a freezing cold night in February when we headed out to do this month's restaurant review. Despite the cold, I couldn't wait to get started. This would be my first review for Davis Life Magazine, and I was excited! Having written features for months, I was ready for a new challenge.

As an avid "foodie" (that means "eater" to me - and drinker too), I had high hopes of filling the shoes of the review writers before me. As a little background, I am involved in two gourmet dinner clubs, I read cookbooks like novels, and I cook every night for my husband and family. I have three children and a hectic schedule, but making a different meal every night is fun for me, and I love to do it! 

Most days, I go onto a food Web site to find something that sounds good, and I give it a try. Or maybe I am inspired by a fantastic dish from a recent restaurant find. My husband loves to challenge me to recreate these favorites from memory. Sometimes it is an ambitious, sophisticated dish, and sometimes it is just a really good cheeseburger. As an example, this week I made my own calzones, dough included, and filled with spinach, beef and ricotta cheese. They were a little bit labor intensive, but it was fun.
