For January's review of Thai Recipes, the Davis Life Magazine crew was out in full force and back to its proven formula for success: bar restaurant = good times. Our team consisted of Editor Cary Arnold and her husband Jon Sanchez, who was making his return after calling in sick the last time around; Photo Editor Ara Arbabzadeh; first-year law student Krista Celentano; and long-time friend of DLM, Carrie Leamon.
We had a 5:30 p.m. call time to meet at Uncle Vito's Slice of New York for a quick drink to get things lubed up. Krista and I showed up to find Jon and Cary with a prime spot staked out on Vito's open-air 2nd street patio. Jon and Cary already had cocktails in hand (a margarita straight up, no salt for Cary, and a Grey Goose Martini for Jon) as Krista and I headed up to the bar. I was happy to sip on New Belgian Brewery's 2 below, and Krista got their Belgian white ale. It was not long after Ara and Carrie arrived and had gotten their drinks that we had to get moving to make our reservation at Thai Recipes. Luckily we were not far away.
After making the grueling trek across the street, we descended the stairs into Mansion Square, the subterranean shopping center on the corner of 2nd and E streets. We walked into the well-lit restaurant and strolled through, pulling up to the last available table with chairs - |
