On Fifth Street past Pole Line Road, between the busy I-80, the dreary railroad tracks, and the sterile office buildings, seems an unlikely place to have an artistic center in Davis. However, once you step inside the new Hoblit Performing Arts Center, home of the Davis Musical Theatre Company (DMTC), you will be amazed by the beautiful interior, complete with a waterfall, commodious dressing rooms, a large stage with an orchestra pit, and a massive costume room. It didn't start this way, though getting to this large, lush location was a long time coming for DMTC founders Steve and Jan Isaacson.

Although both from New York City, Steve, a percussionist, and Jan, a clarinetist, didn't meet until they were both involved in the music department at Miami Dade College in Florida. They hit it off immediately, and by the third date they were engaged. Five months later, they were married, and 33 years later they are still together.

Not long after their marriage, Steve and Jan moved to Davis when Steve decided to attend graduate school at UC Davis. Shortly after settling down in Davis, Jan joined the Yolo County Community Band, and eventually got involved with the thriving theater community in the Sacramento area.
