Hello Davis residents! My name is Kate O'Rear, and I have been living in Davis for three years. Some of you may know me from my weekly cooking column in the California Aggie. I am originally from Sonoma County and grew up going to fine restaurants in the heart of wine country. I cook food all the time and try to have an eclectic style. My favorite things to make are fresh Mediterranean entrées, and I love having gourmet brunch parties. As you can see, I love good food so I am very exciting to be going on these outings with Davis Life Magazine editor, Cary Arnold, and her husband Jon Sanchez; two big "foodies" just like me with extensive restaurant and chef backgrounds. Each month the three of us, and sometimes a guest, will have an evening out to review a restaurant around town. I'm looking forward to sharing our evening outings with all of you - bon appétit!

An array of ocean delicacy describes my first evening out with Cary and Jon at the Japanese cuisine hot spot, Zen Toro.

We knew that the selection of alcoholic drinks would be limited at a Japanese restaurant so we started the evening out with a couple of cocktails down the street at Seasons. I had never been there, so I was introduced to some of the employees and had a delightful conversation with Jeff Chaffin, the bartender.
