2nd Annual Capay Crush

Farm Fresh To You and Capay Organic invite the public to Capay Crush, the farm’s second annual grape festival that will celebrate the crush season. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participating wineries include: Berryessa Gap, Capay Valley Vineyards, Seka Hills, Simas Family Vineyard and Turkovich Family Wines. Event proceeds benefit the Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture (KBNP).

The Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture gives an annual scholarship to a high school senior planning on pursuing a field related to sustainable agriculture. KBNP also donates school supplies to farmworker families in theCapayValley. This August, KBNP donated 443 backpacks stocked with school supplies for local students.

“Sharing the farm with others and introducing people to where their food is grown is one of our primary missions,” said Thaddeus Barsotti, farmer and co-owner. “We’re especially excited to partner with local wineries to celebrate local agriculture.”

Capay Crush will offer a harvest activity and grape stomping “I Love Lucy” style. Farm tractor tram tours will run every 20 minutes until dusk allowing guests to see the farm land at the end of summer with fall veggies starting to grow.

Farm pizzas from the Caffe Italia mobile pizza oven will be sold. Guests can also opt to bring their own picnics.

Kelly McFarling’s powerful voice and authentic rhythm and bluegrass band will start out the evening from 4 p.m. to 5:30pm.

Boca Do Rio will perform their vibrant Brazilian samba-reggae “música orgânica” from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Ticket Information

Tickets are on sale now through Thursday, Sept. 27, for $20 per car. Tickets will be sold at the farm on the event day for $25 per person.  To purchase tickets, go to: http://capaycrush2012.eventbrite.com/.

Camping

From the Bay Area:

Take Interstate 80 East to Interstate 505 North. Go approximately 20 miles; exit on Highway 16/Esparto, turn left at the light. Follow Highway 16 through Esparto and Capay. The farm is a 1/4 mile past the town ofCapayon the right. Look for the Farm Fresh To You event signs and turn onto the gravel road that leads to the parking area.

From Sacramento:

Take Interstate 5 North throughWoodlandto the Highway 16 W/Esparto exit. Take the exit and turn left; then travel three miles to second stoplight. Turn right onto Highway 16. Follow Highway 16 through Esparto and Capay. The farm is a 1/4 mile past the town ofCapayon the right. Look for the Farm Fresh To You event signs and turn onto the gravel road that leads to the parking area.

Farm Fresh To You is an organic farm and CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) home and office delivery program connecting families to the source of their produce. Farming since 1976, this second-generation company that pioneered the organic food movement is owned by brothers Noah Barnes and Thaddeus and Freeman Barsotti. Growing up on the farm, the brothers were instilled with a good understanding of the shortcomings of modern agriculture and are excited to be changing the food system for the better.
