Annual Village Feast

This year is the 8th Annual Village Feast is August 25th, 2012 – Mark your calendars.  This event is an end of the summer tradition here in Davis and each year the event sells out the more than 300 tickets offered.  Maybe it is the amazing regional cuisine, or the opportunity to socialize with 300 of your neighbors & dearest friends as summer comes to a close, or even the amazing auction items like a portrait of you and your friends enjoying the Feast that makes this event so popular.

As tradition, the Buckhorn will cater and succulent grilled lamb, paired with delightful provincial ingredients from the Davis Famers Market showcasing regional heirloom tomato salad, Watermelon Fresca, and wines from local vineyards.

Community harvest festivals are as old and timeless as farming and community itself.  Davis Village Feast is a festive event modeled after great community food love-fests like that of “le Grand Aioli” in France or the “Lohri” in India.  These are community events where everyone brings their plates, utensils, and cloth napkins ready to share in the amazing meal prepared for the community.  While we celebrate the Village Feast to raise funds to sustain community gardens, recycle programs and fresh local foods for all Davis Joint Unified School District schools, we also take the time to celebrate community, local foods and gathering with family and friends.

Davis Farm to School works to provide fresh local foods to all of the school in the district, in addition to educating students and community about the connections between food choices and our personal health, community farms and land.

Come enjoy this community celebration with Davis Farm to School and Slow Food Yolo at the 8th Annual Village Feast for a repast under the Sycamore trees in Davis’ Central Park.   And in the tradition of the Lohri and Le Grand Aioli, we ask that you do bring your plate, forks, knives, spoons and cloth napkin, wine glasses will be provided.  This approach is consistent with Davis Farm to School’s ‘Zero waste” initiative.  Tickets will be $75 per person and will be available at the Davis Food Coop, Nugget Markets and online at www.DavisFarmToSchool.org beginning June 15.  We are also accepting sponsors until July 1.
