As you begin, or continue, your holiday shopping, don’t miss the opportunity to choose from a variety of fair trade gifts and gifts by local artisans at “The Power of a Gift” on Saturday, November 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at CA House, 433 Russell Boulevard. There will be jewelry, paintings, baskets, beeswax candles, photography, gift cards, and many other works of art available for sale along with entertainment by two local bands.
You’ll be able to choose from many fair trade items from around the world, but you can also purchase works by local artists including Lindsay Brandt, Janis Chambers, Mary Cooper, Nadene Donner, Elizabeth Fulmer, Amy and Bill Habicht, Gerry Hair, Bev Hendrickson, Julie Herdt, Natalie Mackenzie, Doriene Marshall, Claudia Morray, Leanna Pierson, Vicky Powers, Toni Voelker and Patricia Wentzel.
Neon Lite with Davis residents Chris Stabenfeldt, Dave Walters, Sharyn Orris and Mary Lynn Tobin will be one of the local bands performing. Neon Lite includes two members of another local band, Custom Neon, but this smaller version of the band places the emphasis on folk-rock songs and strong harmonies. You won’t hear a finer version of Seven Bridges Road, or as many Beatles songs, from any other local band.
The second band will be The Narrow Gauge String Band with Bruce Eldridge from Davis, David Riggs from Woodland, Mark Brothers from Dixon, and Ken Eldridge from Sacramento. They are an acoustical bluegrass band with guitar, banjo, fiddle, bass and that special blending of voices that exemplifies good bluegrass.
