Halloween Haunts

Are your lack of plans for this weekend freaking you out? Feeling more like a glum ghoul than a jolly jack-o-lantern? If so, here are some last minute Halloween ideas to spice up your weekend:

There are many haunted houses and ghost tours open on Friday, such as Fright Planet at the Cal Expo, Forest of Lost SoulsMaines Mansion, and Sutter’s Fort. If you are afraid of the dark, consider attending historic Folsom’s Night of 1000 Pumpkins which should definitely light up the night. That event starts at 4 P.M. and attendees who contribute carved pumpkins will be entered into a raffle to win prizes such as an Apple iPad.

Saturday’s events range from PG and family friendly to 21+ craziness. There is the Davis Fall Festival which will feature a pumpkin patch, costume parade, and live music (8 A.M. – 1 P.M., Central Park) as well as Folsom’s Fallfest where there will be street vendors, face painting, and a parade (10 A.M., historic downtown).

There is also a Halloween Pub Crawl in Sacramento. From Bar West to Capital Garage, de Vere’s to Pyramid Brewery, the Cal Pub Crawl and 5hundy Social Club guarantee you’ll drink a lot, experience cheeky shenanigans and need a cab ride home. If your liver feels up to it (mine sure doesn’t) check the schedule here.

Finally, there is the 2011 Exotic Halloween Ball – If you’re looking to anchor your spot on Santa’s naughty list for Christmas, check out the 15th annual Exotic Halloween Ball at the Cal Expo. This 21+ event is Saturday from 8:30 P.M. to 2 A.M and features a $5,000 costume contest, lap dance stage, exotic haunted house, 3 dance floors, mechanical bulls, and more. General tickets are $34 in advance.

Hopefully you feel inspired to throw together a costume and get out there! My Halloween plans are to dress up like a biker chick (leather vest and gloves, with a heavy splash of temporary tattoos) and attend the Blind Scream haunted house in Santa Rosa. Here’s to hoping I make it out alive!

Happy Halloween!
