2011 Pence Gallery Garden Tour

Mark your calendars: Sunday, May 1, from 12 – 5 pm, is the 20th Annual Pence Gallery Garden Tour, a fundraising event benefiting the Pence’s education and exhibit programs. This celebrated event will once again feature artistic gardens in Davis. This year guests are invited to view the glorious outdoor living environments of rural West Davis. Eight homes will be on the tour. The gardens are within close proximity of each other, making for an eco-friendly afternoon of biking or walking from home to home.

This year’s tour includes some of the largest gardens ever featured on the Garden Tour. Fruit orchards, bountiful vegetable plots and native plantings are just some of the categories highlighted in this year’s Tour. One of the homes has a garden with not one, but three bridges over a slough where geese nest, a miniature train is on display and a variety of bamboo species abound. Shady redwood groves and brick-lined grape arbors from another residence provide a lovely backdrop for strolling. And, of course, on the tour will be artists at work! Local artists Naomi Bautista, Marie-Therese Brown, Kristine Bybee, Jeanette Copley, Phillippe Gandiol, Debbie Gualco, Deborah Hill, Cynthia Kroener, and Beth Winfield will be painting “live” in the gardens along the tour from 12 to 4:30pm. Also, weaver Natalie Mackenzie will demonstrate how to spin and weave her selected fiber creations. Completed works may be seen at the Pence Gallery May 24 – June 30, 2011.

There will be a Silent Auction from 12 to 5:30pm and complimentary homemade refreshments along with restrooms all at one designated residence. Tickets are $20 in advance for Pence Gallery members, $25 for non-members, and $28 the day of the event. Tickets are available at the Pence Gallery, 212 D Street; Redwood Barn Nursery, 1607 Fifth Street; Newsbeat, 514 Third Street; and Beyond the Garden Gate, 1015 Olive Drive. The day of the Tour, tickets are sold at the Pence Gallery and at 37810 Russell Boulevard in Davis starting at 12 noon.
