The bad news is, Aioli’s Restaurant in Davis has closed its doors and is currently vacating their current 808 Second Street location. The good news is, Charlie Swanson has leased the space and has asked my husband Jon Sanchez to partner with him in opening a new restaurant in its place.
The new upscale restaurant will be called Our House and promises to have great food, cocktails made with all freshly-squeezed juices to order and a great wine list. The menu and concept are still being developed, but Charlie and Jon want it to be a place where the well-trained staff all know you by name and all of the regular customers’ photos grace the walls. You’ll be treated as though you are guests in our house.
When Charlie found out that Aioli wasn’t renewing their lease and that the old Cafe California building was available again, he knew he wanted a second chance at the location. He said he was thinking about buying it from Larry and Cathy Olsen when they sold their business a few years ago, but that it sold quickly. He has signed a conditional lease with the intention of opening Our House sometime this spring.
Charlie and his wife, Davis Mayor Pro Tem Rochelle Swanson, own The Graduate on Russell Blvd. Charlie has been in the restaurant business for over 25 years where he’s been a cook, a bouncer, a bartender, an emcee, an owner and even used to DJ. “I look forward to bringing my passion for food and fun to a more upscale venue. I was excited to bring Jon on board to blend his culinary talents with my business and bar experience,” said Charlie.
Jon brings with him 16 years of restaurant experience working in various restaurants over the years including Victoria Station, Fat City, California Fats, Arco Arena and Tower Café.
Jon and I met at California Fats in Old Sacramento in the ‘90s where he was the sous chef and I was the bar manager and mentored under Colin Fat and Lina Fat. We then moved on to Tower Café on Broadway in Sacramento where Jon was the executive chef and I was the general manager. Jon has mostly back-of-the-house experience, but has bartended as well and is known in our circles as one of the best bartenders in town and is frequently making signature cocktails in our home bar.
We love to travel and try new restaurants and have shared our food adventures with you in Davis Life Magazine while selling real estate for Coldwell Banker Doug Arnold Real Estate, Inc.
The four of us look forward to creating a place where you all feel happy, welcome, well fed and surrounded by friends!
