A while back, I did a blog on the Taste of Thai restaurant that is located on Broadway. I wrote how Broadway, while not a pretty street, has many hidden gems. Well, my boyfriend loves Chinese food and often asks that we eat it. We’d driven by New Canton plenty of times and always noticed that the parking lot was packed. From the outside, it looks like an old run down Chinese restaurant. But, the repeated packed parking lot piqued our interest and we decided to try it out.
I am so glad we did! Inside, the restaurant is very simple. Specials listed on the boards, and crisp white table cloths on the tables. We were quickly seated and offered something to drink. After a few minutes, we’d looked over the menu and made our decisions.
To start, we ordered the Salt & Pepper Tofu. This is so delicious, it is hard to put in words. You really just have to try it out. Kris ordered Honey Walnut Shrimp, which were also perfect. I could have eaten those all night long. I ordered MuShu Pork, which came with the standard thin pancakes, and plum sauce, and was as good as MuShu Pork gets!
Being used to portion sizes at other Chinese restaurants, we also ordered an order of General Chicken, which was perfectly spiced and made with all white meat chicken. Boy were we wrong in ordering that extra dish! Each item we ordered was more than enough for two, so we had our fair share of left overs to
take home with us.
Bottom line, don’t judge a book by its cover, especially this book! New Canton Chinese is excellent and we will be back again and again! We’ve also heard that they
have excellent Dim Sum, and plan to go during the times they offer that, to try it out.
