Head up to Woodland for the 3rd Annual Tomato Festival on Saturday, August 14th. Held in conjunction with the weekly farmer’s market (9:00am – 2:00pm) at Freeman Park (1001 Main Street), this year’s celebration is looking mighty tasty.
Heirloom Tomato Tastings goes on from 9:00am – 12:00pm while folks battle it out at the Salsa Tasting Competition from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Super Burrito & Taqueria (90 West Court Street, Woodland) took third in 2008, second in 2009 – so the burning, or rather, spicy question is: can they clinch the title this year?!
And don’t miss the Chef Wars beginning at 11:30am and the Tomato Toss following an hour later. There is just tons of tomato fun planned! Speaking of which, Yolo County has more than 42,000 acres of tomatoes planted accounting for over $100 million in revenue to the county each year – that’s a lot of fruit!
