It is going to be ‘ag’citing at the Yolo County Fair this year. Open today through Sunday, August 22nd from noon to midnight, the Fair is the oldest and largest “free gate” fair in California. Parking is just $5.00.
Enjoy all the usual ag-related fun, including ancient tractors and fire engines, the cutest animals and yummy greasy fair food. Activities include one of my favorites – demolition derby held both Saturday and Sunday nights beginning at 7:00pm at the Fairground Arena. Also not to miss are the animal showing and auction as well as the baking and food competitions. There is a men’s baking competition today at 7:00pm – a must!
Other highlights include a Master Gardener Information Booth open from noon to 9:00pm every day (for those burning fruit, veggie and herb-growing quandaries) and something that might be a hoot called ‘Ag Bingo’ – beets, ice cream, nectarines, grapes, oranges – BINGO!
And I mustn’t forget the Yolo Idol Search Contest. Hometown, country entertainment at its best. For the seventh year, the Yolo County Fair is featuring this popular attraction open to singers residing in Yolo County. If you got talent and the ability to perform in front of the more than 1,000 fans that typical swarm, get down there tonight – the event begins at 7:30pm on the West Stage next to the Rotary Park picnic area. Yolo County Superior Court Judge David Rosenberg will again Emcee the show.
