Summer Martinis

To add more fun to your summer party, make a signature cocktail. My mixologist husband thinks of a new drink recipe for every party we have. Most of them are inspired from standard cocktail recipes and tweaked a little. Here are some of our favorite summer martinis:

Matador:

2 oz. tequila
1 oz. lime juice
4 oz. pineapple juice
1 sugar cube or 1 oz. simple syrup

Fill a shaker with ice, pour in all ingredients, shake, strain and serve straight up in a martini glass with a pineapple slice garnish.

Mai-Tini:

Inspired by a Mai Tai, this layered drink is gorgeous and delicious!

2 oz. Captain Morgan’s Rum
½ oz. triple sec
Juice of ½ of a lime
3 oz. pineapple juice
½ oz. grenadine
½ oz. Meyer’s Rum to float on top

Fill shaker with ice. Pour in all ingredients but the Meyer’s Rum and the grenadine. Shake, strain and serve straight-up. The slowly add the grenadine along the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom. Slowly pour float the Meyer’s Rum on top. Garnish with a slice of pineapple or a maraschino cherry at the bottom of the glass.

The Nasty:

This drink was inspired by the drink, “sex on the beach”, with tequila being substituted for vodka.

2 ½ oz. tequila
¾ oz peach schnapps
3 oz. of cranberry juice
3 oz. of orange juice

Fill shaker with ice. Pour in all ingredients, shake, strain and serve straight up.

Melon Martini:

2 oz. Absolute Citron
¾ oz. Midori
¼ oz. triple sec
1 sugar cube
4 oz. pineapple juice

Fill shaker with ice. Pour in all ingredients, shake, strain and serve straight up with watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew melon balls for garnish.
