The new Namaste Nepal Restaurant is now open where the much-loved La Esperanza once was in the University Mall in Davis. Namaste Nepal which is “Fine Nepalese & Indian Dining” according to the menu, serves an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch and a full menu for dinner.
Jon and I stopped in for lunch today, and tried many of the dishes including Curry Chicken, Butter Chicken, Tandori Chicken, Naan, and much more. It was only the second time either of us have eaten Indian food, so by no means do we consider ourselves experts. I can say that the food was good, the buffet was kept well-stocked, and our personal favorites were the Butter Chicken which was in a bright orange sauce and the never-ending supply of warm, soft Naan bread dipped into the bright green mint sauce.
We tried many other dishes which featured vegetables, chickpeas, lentils, etc. They were all unique and fresh with new spices that were oddly intriguing. I skipped the goat meat dish, but Jon tried it. It was the first time I’ve ever heard him say the sentence, “I think the mint with a little goat will be good.”
The restaurant was hopping when we were there, and the owners and staff were attentive, refilling waters, bringing fresh napkins, and answering all of the questions we had. The restaurant has undergone some aesthetic changes inside, and has a fresh, welcoming feel. The layout is the same, but the booths have been recovered, the tables are new, and the front counter is now granite.
The lunch buffet is normally $8.99 per person, but for the first month, is only $6.99 – good until June 13th. You can also enjoy 20% off of the dinner menu through the 13th as well.
The restaurant is located at 825 Russell Blvd., Suite #30. 530.792-7321. See more reviews on their Davis Wiki page: http://daviswiki.org/Namaste_Nepal_Restaurant
