Sublime Country Kitchen

Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour Part Two: A second Woodland country property was included on this past Saturday’s 10th Annual Red Cross Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour; The Heidrick Family has owned this 200 acre working farm since 1979.  The homeowners decided in 2005 after raising four daughters it was time to update their home. First on the list was the kitchen! The Heidrick’s large family with grandchildren visiting often required a much larger space in the kitchen for food prepartion and dining. The Heidrick’s wanted their home to be comfortable and elegant for entertaining. One of the first noticeable features of the kitchen are the tumbled marble tile floors; they have a rustic quality perfect for an active household. The homeowner’s son-in-law, Jedd Ward, of Ward Construction out of Woodland ran the remodel and did an excellent job through out the entire house! Countless details were executed with skill in all the rooms, not just the kitchen.  Mrs. Heidrick mentioned how much she likes her galley-style kitchen where she can have a few people at a time working on meal preparation and cleaning up. The massive island, sixteen feet long by six feet wide, in Absolute Black granite serves the family well for everyday dining, holiday parties and weekend entertaining.

White and black tile add country flair to the island's elegant granite countertop

Another important detail to Mrs. Heidrick is her nostalgic nod to the kitchen of her childhood. The black and white tiles with black trim were laid near the large stainless apron-front sink with a picture window above overlooking the pool and orchard beyond. “It’s a practical sink, ” she says mentioning how easy the off-set faucet works for large serving platters and stock pots. There’s a sensibility about all the Heidricks’ design selections.

This wet bar is ready for some serious entertaining

One of the “extras” is the wet bar with glass-front cabinets. It has a separate sink and built-in cabinetry for an ice machine, drink refrigerator and a wine refrigerator. Adjacent to this dream wet bar is an equally desirable coffee bar with multiple coffee and espresso makers. These well-appointed extras clearly allow for some serious entertaining and easy flow of “traffic”. The two separate GE Monogram series full-size, stainless freezer and refrigerator, the DCS by Fisher & Paykel gas range and two Bosch dishwashers round out this wonderful remodel. With four married daughters, their husbands and several grandchildren it’s easy to see why some changes were needed in this family ranch home. Jedd Ward went above and beyond for his in-laws. Thanks Red Cross of Yolo County for selecting such a fantastic residence for your Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour!
