Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour Part Two: A second Woodland country property was included on this past Saturday’s 10th Annual Red Cross Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour; The Heidrick Family has owned this 200 acre working farm since 1979. The homeowners decided in 2005 after raising four daughters it was time to update their home. First on the list was the kitchen! The Heidrick’s large family with grandchildren visiting often required a much larger space in the kitchen for food prepartion and dining. The Heidrick’s wanted their home to be comfortable and elegant for entertaining. One of the first noticeable features of the kitchen are the tumbled marble tile floors; they have a rustic quality perfect for an active household. The homeowner’s son-in-law, Jedd Ward, of Ward Construction out of Woodland ran the remodel and did an excellent job through out the entire house! Countless details were executed with skill in all the rooms, not just the kitchen. Mrs. Heidrick mentioned how much she likes her galley-style kitchen where she can have a few people at a time working on meal preparation and cleaning up. The massive island, sixteen feet long by six feet wide, in Absolute Black granite serves the family well for everyday dining, holiday parties and weekend entertaining.

Another important detail to Mrs. Heidrick is her nostalgic nod to the kitchen of her childhood. The black and white tiles with black trim were laid near the large stainless apron-front sink with a picture window above overlooking the pool and orchard beyond. “It’s a practical sink, ” she says mentioning how easy the off-set faucet works for large serving platters and stock pots. There’s a sensibility about all the Heidricks’ design selections.
